This can’t be free. What’s the catch? Do I have to give you a kidney or something?

There’s no catch. YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE (YNA to our friends) provides adventures to adults affected by cancer — free of charge. YNA will cover the costs of continental breakfast (usually muffins and bagels), Clif Bar type snacks, water-slash-Gatorade and the adventure for you and a friend or relative. Your only out of pocket costs are your lunch and transportation to and from the adventure… and lodging should you decide to stay the night. Your kidneys are yours to keep.

Who is eligible to sign up?

Anybody who has been diagnosed with cancer on or after their 18th birthday.

OK… so I’m eligible to participate… how much skill do I need to have on a scale of 1 to Laura Croft?

Absolutely no experience is necessary to participate. If you can climb a ladder, you can rock climb. If you can convince yourself running off a 300-foot hill is a good idea, you can paraglide.

Nobody in my family is crazy enough to participate in awesome things… can I bring a brother from another mother, a sister from another mister, or a significant other?

Definitely.

You know what, I’m just crazy enough to join you guys. Now what?

If you’ve decided that you’d like to fly off a perfectly good hill or scale a giant rock face, welcome to the club! We think you’re really, really going to like it here.  We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible to join us… but you’re still going to have to jump through a few hoops.

  • Contact us (you can use the handy “Contact” link at the top of the page or you can click here)
  • Sign and return the YNA liability waiver
  • Get your oncologist or hematologist to write a note saying you can participate with us
  • Because we partner with some of the most respected guides and instructors on the planet, you may also be required to sign their waiver(s) of liability when you arrive for your adventure.

How do you prioritize participants?

Participants are generally accommodated on a first come first serve basis. However, we do take extenuating circumstances into consideration.

Do I have to have completed treatment to participate?

No. As long as your oncologist or hematologist signs off on your participation, and you feel up to the challenge, you will be allowed to participate.

Is there a limit to how many times I can participate?

You can join us on an adventure once a year. In fact, we hope you join us once a year. Your repeat participation means we’re doing something right… or you’re insane. Either is OK by us.

A train leaves a station and travels north at 50 km/hr. Three hours later, a second train leaves on a parallel track and travels north at 90 km/hr. How far from the station will they meet?

In 3 hours, the first train is 150 km away from the station (50 km/hr * 3 hr)
The second train will gain on the first train at a speed of 40 km/hr (90 km/hr – 50 km/hr) = 40 km/hr
The second train will take 3.75 hours to overtake the first train (150 km / (40 km/hr))

The second train will be 337.5 km away from the station (3.75 hr * 90 km/hr)
See me for partial credit.

I have nineteen people in my immediate family and I can’t choose who I want to participate with me. I’d like them all to participate. Is that OK?

Sort-of. YNA will cover the costs for two participants, including the cancer fighter. Additional friends and family members are welcome to participate- but they will be responsible for the cost of their meals, lessons, and gear rental. There is no charge to watch you and cheer you on.

What are the health requirements?

General health requirements to participate in each activity are listed on the page for that activity. It should be noted that these are general requirements and that actual requirements may vary.

My doctor is a big meany and will not sign off saying I can participate. Can I still participate?

While we strongly suggest working with your doctor to verify you are healthy enough to participate in one of our adventures, we recognize that we are not the boss of you.  If you opt not to get a doctor’s sign-off, you will be allowed to participate but will have an additional waiver to sign.

Mother Nature didn’t cooperate and my adventure got postponed.  Can I get reimbursed for my travel and/or lodging expenses?

Classic Mother Nature.  Everything we do is weather dependent and your safety is our number-one priority.  If your adventure gets cancelled due to weather, we are not responsible for any incurred travel or lodging expenses.  However, we will happily rebook your adventure at your earliest convenience (provided our partners have availability).
